Ever wonder how soldiers become soldiers? What kind of tests do they go throught before someone says you are good enough for the job? Well, the Swedish Armed Forces are giving us a taste of it.
The tests are not scientific but have been inspired by ability and personality tests used by the psychologists responsible for officer recruitment in the Swedish Armed Forces.
As an officer you have to be able to handle severe pressure, often in extreme environments. For instance handle information under time pressure and make decisions based on limited knowledge. The capacity to simultaneously perform tasks is vital, as well as, planning ahead regarding time and resources. Equally important is to be able to control your own emotions and endure insecurity.
The tests also illustrate how personality traits and values are an important part of what it takes to be come an officer, e.g. attitudes towards minorities, cultural tolerance, ethics and the ability to handle other challenges you may face when on international missions.
